Hi there! I'm Marya. I was born in Washington, D.C. and I love designing beautiful spaces in and around the nation's capital (and the occasional client vacation home as well!)
I have a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond, an interior design degree from Marymount University, and have studied art history, fine art, and architecture, in Florence, Italy as well as the Corcoran School of Art here in Washington.
When I am not busy designing, you can often find me checking out a new band with my husband, exploring a museum or park with my three kiddos, or snuggling at home on the sofa with my sweet pup.
I got my start in 2005 at the Washington Design Center; learning about fine textiles by day, and taking classes in architecture and design at night. I then worked for several years at a prestigious residential interiors firm, with a wonderful and highly-regarded designer as my mentor. From there I moved on to help establish the interiors branch of an award-winning local architecture firm. In addition to my experience in high-end fabrics and furnishings, my time working alongside architects on custom home builds gave me an extensive education in designing millwork, kitchens, bathrooms, and special insight into all phases of the construction process. I now utilize that knowledge to assist clients through all stages of their projects.
WHAT I'VE DONE
I started Karlton Kelly Interiors with the goal of bringing highly customized luxury design and exceptional service to a small number of clients at a time. I pride myself on bringing out a client's personal style and meeting their specific design goals, all while creating spaces that are both functional in layout, and beautiful and comfortable in feel. I tailor the whole process to work with each client's individual schedule, budget, and vision for their home.
